The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) is pleased to announce Dr. John Erickson has joined the Institute as NIIMBL Senior Fellow, effective June 3, 2019. Dr. Erickson joins NIIMBL after nearly 30 years at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), where he held a variety of roles in process development, project management, and manufacturing.
Most recently, Dr. Erickson served as Vice President, Biopharmaceutical and Steriles Manufacturing Science and Technology, where he was responsible for scientific oversight and support for commercial biopharmaceutical drug substance and sterile fill/finish of biopharmaceuticals and small molecules.
In the role of NIIMBL Senior Fellow, Dr. Erickson will apply his perspective and extensive industry experience to help ensure that NIIMBL investments are aligned with current industry needs; support the management of a portfolio of impactful projects; and, help lead some technology initiatives and projects that will benefit the biopharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem.
“John helped conceive the idea of NIIMBL and was one of our earliest advocates from the industry. His substantial industrial background related to biopharmaceutical manufacturing is a significant addition to the NIIMBL team,” said Kelvin Lee, NIIMBL Institute Director. “We are very excited to have someone so well-recognized join the NIIMBL team and help us execute our work.”
Dr. Erickson said, “The biopharmaceutical industry has solved many of the problems that can be addressed by individual organizations working alone. Solutions to the technical problems of the future will only come when people from industry, academia, and government collaborate much more closely than we have before, and NIIMBL is uniquely positioned to facilitate that collaboration. I feel privileged to do this fulltime.”
