New Model for Developing Early System Level Thinkers Using Hybrid Industry-Academia Training

Performance Period: 11/1/2020 to 10/31/2021

The goal of this project is to develop and pilot a hybrid industry-academia training model for new and incumbent employees, as well as prospective university graduates entering the workforce. This goal will be achieved by exploring models for hybrid programs that combine both industry and academic training environments for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The initial pilot will leverage the flexibility of academic training resources to cover emerging areas of biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The precise audience and subject matter will be decided early on in the project. Possible subjects include cell and gene therapy, cutting edge upstream and downstream processing technologies, etc.

This effort will focus on directly bridging the gap between academic and industry training using a shared ownership model that connects content and outcomes. This will result in co-creation of digital, classroom and hands-on content, as well as shared content delivery across physical locations with both industry and academic instructors. The results of this pilot effort will be compiled into an actionable framework for reproducibly, establishing similar partnerships between industry and academic institutions regionally and nationally.
