NIIMBL Joins as Co-Production Partner for 2027 Life Sciences Workforce Trends Report

July 30, 2025 | The Life Sciences Workforce Collaborative (LSWC) is proud to announce that the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) will serve as the Co-Production Partner for the 2027 LSWC-TEConomy Life Sciences Workforce Trends Report.

This national report, recognized as a definitive resource on workforce trends, talent needs, and career development in the life sciences, will continue to evolve in scope and reach through this partnership. Over the next two years, NIIMBL will collaborate with LSWC to expand engagement across all life science industry subsectors, building on insights from the 2025 report and amplifying focus on emerging talent needs at all points along the career development pathway.

“NIIMBL is proud to partner with the Life Sciences Workforce Collaborative on this important national effort. As the life science industry continues to innovate and evolve, it’s critical that we align on shared priorities to ensure we are meeting its skilled talent needs. This report will help shine a light on emerging demand, elevate regional best practices, and support data-informed workforce investments across the country.” — John Balchunas, Workforce Director, NIIMBL

“Partnering with NIIMBL on the 2027 report is an exciting opportunity to bring greater visibility to the unique and shared workforce challenges across the life sciences industry,” said Lori Lindburg, Co-Founder & Sr. Advisor, of the Life Sciences Workforce Collaborative. “This collaboration will help ensure the next report reflects the breadth of talent needs and solutions emerging from every corner of the country.”

The 2025 Report, released in June, highlighted key insights from over 700 life science employers across 30 states and Puerto Rico. It underscored the continued need for industry-aligned training pathways, cross-sector collaboration, and expanded national coordination to meet future workforce demand. As the partners look ahead to 2027, we intend to build and expand upon the report’s track record of success to inform data-driven workforce strategies for the life sciences industry.

Together, LSWC and NIIMBL will:

  • Deepen engagement with national and regional partners;
  • Explore critical talent and skills challenges across life science career pathways;
  • Promote the report findings through joint events, interviews, and conference programming;
  • Strengthen outreach to life science employers and underrepresented regions of the U.S.

The 2027 report will be developed with extensive input from industry, education, and workforce partners and will feature updated data collection tools, a refreshed national resource guide, and state/regional workforce snapshots.

LSWC extends its deepest gratitude to InnovATEBIO and the National Science Foundation for their foundational support of the 2021, 2023, and 2025 reports. Their investment has made it possible to build a trusted national platform that informs policy, guides talent development, and empowers regional ecosystems. We are thankful for their continued partnership in advancing workforce excellence across the life sciences.
