Newark, Del., October 8, 2026 – NIIMBL has opened student applications for the 2027 NIIMBL eXperience, a weeklong, all-expenses-paid program that introduces first- and second-year college students to biopharmaceutical industry careers. Students can apply to one of four programs:
- Puerto Rico Science, Technology, and Research Trust (June 13 – 19)
- Santa Clara University (California) (June 20 – 26)
- University at Buffalo (New York) (June 27 – July 3)
- Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Massachusetts) (June 6 – 12)
Through hands-on activities, facility tours, and networking with industry professionals, participants gain firsthand insight into biopharmaceutical manufacturing and process development careers. Since 2019, more than 300 students from 169 academic institutions have participated in the NIIMBL eXperience. Students have gone on to secure internships at many leading biomanufacturers, including Pfizer, Merck, Johnson & Johnson, and MilliporeSigma.
“The NIIMBL eXperience gives students a clear look at the possibilities within biopharma, helps the industry meet emerging talent needs, and catalyzes novel collaboration within regional biopharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystems,” said John Balchunas, NIIMBL Workforce Director.
A 2026 participant described one of the program’s greatest student benefits as “seeing the inside of biopharma and understanding what a career would be like, coupled with the insight and advice from professionals.”
Eligibility & Application
Applicants must be U.S. citizens residing in the United States and enrolled in a degree program with fewer than 60 credits. Students are encouraged to choose the site closest to their home region. Academic institutions are invited to share this opportunity broadly.
