Our Process Intensification (PI) Program, established in 2020, was the first NIIMBL-Led Program, and has been led by Dr. John Erickson since its inception. Over the past six years, the program has grown to include most of our large industry member companies and more than 400 world class subject matter experts have contributed to it. In the past year, the program’s two major platforms have been completed: a process intensification test bed in Newark, DE and a design for a next generation manufacturing facility.
Dr. Erickson has been gradually reducing his hours with NIIMBL over the past four years, and he has requested that leadership of the program be passed on to someone else, so he can continue that trajectory of working fewer hours. Dr. Erickson has demonstrated great leadership of the program and helped catalyze the community to create a significant number of deliverables on a variety of needs articulated by industry and NIIMBL is grateful to him for his leadership and vision.

Developing a shared vision for our industry and making tangible progress towards that vision has been rewarding. It has been a joy and a privilege to work with some of the brightest and most innovative people in the industry, without whom this program would not have been possible. I look forward to continuing to work with NIIMBL and the rest of this incredible team.”
Kelvin Lee said, “We are grateful for the energy, experience, and leadership that John has brought to NIIMBL and to the Process Intensification program. This month, we expect to finish our strategic roadmapping for the next phase of the Process Intensification program, which will see initial commercial adoption of technologies and approaches that NIIMBL has advanced. We are now looking for the next Process Intensification Program leader who can lead the ecosystem towards widespread adoption of these approaches.”
