Solution

Performance Period: 2/1/2021 to 1/31/2022

Service members, including military veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses, represent a significant and underutilized talent pipeline for the biopharma manufacturing industry. Instilled throughout the framework of military service is a strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, dedication, the ability to innovate and identify solutions to challenging and demanding work environments, and a desire to “serve something bigger than oneself”. Careers in biopharma manufacturing provide service members the opportunity to continue serving our nation through innovations in delivering medicines and improving the quality of life for patients.

This project aims to elevate the preparedness of service members for careers in biopharma by linking their readily transferable soft skills with targeted technical training. Through the “Military Service Members in Biopharma Manufacturing” program, the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station’s National Center for Therapeutics Manufacturing will work with partner organizations, leveraging technical training infrastructure and programs to:

1.) Facilitate relationship-building with military installations and participant recruitment.

2.) Exercise existing workforce readiness programs located in regions with significant military presence to deliver biopharmaceutical. manufacturing training to 50 military service members, military spouses, and/or veterans.

3.) Collaborate with Merck and Pfizer to network and interview program participants.

Impacts

Increase industry awareness among transitioning military service members and veterans, provide defined technical training in bioprocessing and biomanufacturing, and strengthen the available pipeline of skilled talent for NIIMBL partner companies.
