NIIMBL Announces New Projects to Advance Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing

NEWARK, Del., January 9, 2018 — The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), a Manufacturing USA institute designed to advance biopharmaceutical manufacturing in the U.S., is proud to announce the selection of 14 technology and 8 workforce development projects as a result of Project Call 2.1.

NIIMBL Launches Education, Training, Facilities, and Equipment Resources

NIIMBL recently rolled out two new tools to the member community enabling users to identify, share, and promote Education & Training Resources as well as Facilities & Equipment Resources. These new databases are located in the Community Portal and provide a detailed listing of training, education, facilities, and equipment offered by the NIIMBL member community.

NIBIB Financial Planning Video Course

The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioenginerring (NIBIB) has developed a new video course, “Entrepreneurial Finance for Biomedical Innovators” designed to help small biomedical companies learn financial planning best practices to mitigate risks and enhance the chances for success along the pathway to commercialization. The videos are presented by Rana K. Gupta, Director of Faculty Entrepreneurship at Boston University.

NIIMBL Collaborates with International Pharmaceutical Quality (IPQ)

NIIMBL has entered into an agreement with International Pharmaceutical Quality (IPQ) to produce content relevant to the NIIMBL community.
As part of the agreement, IPQ will produce articles on the industry/regulator dialogue related to the NIIMBL mission. These stories will help the NIIMBL community better understand the key manufacturing and control regulatory issues facing industry and how NIIMBL can play a role in facilitating solutions and promoting regulatory harmonization. NIIMBL Publishes Technology Roadmaps for the Biopharmaceutical Industry

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of experts from the biopharmaceutical community, NIIMBL has published technology roadmaps for gene therapy, ADCs/bispecific antibodies, and vaccines. These roadmaps were developed for the benefit of the biopharmaceutical industry in the U.S. and globally. The roadmaps highlight technology needs, manufacturing challenges, and areas of opportunity in each of these product categories.

Genentech Seeks Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Genentech seeks a talented and highly motivated scientist to pursue a postdoctoral research project in Process Virology, Pharma Technical Development. This project will contribute to the development of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) for cell line characterization and viral safety evaluation of CHO cells used in biotechnology production. Candidates should possess strong experience with both computational and experimental techniques for sample analysis by NGS. The position has cross-function interactions with a group of talented and highly motivated scientists and engineers at Genentech. This is an ideal position for a PhD looking to further develop skills learned during their academic coursework.

NIIMBL Welcomes John Balchunas as Workforce Director

NIIMBL is pleased to announce that John Balchunas will join the NIIMBL staff as Workforce Director, effective November 1, 2018. John will take over for Kathi Greene, who has decided to retire after a distinguished industry career. Kathi will continue to support NIIMBL through the end of 2018.
