NIIMBL Technology Workshop Highlights Cell Therapy Manufacturing Innovation

On August 6, NIIMBL held its latest technology workshop, Cell Therapy Manufacturing Innovation. Hosted by Celgene at its facility in Summit, N.J., the workshop brought together more than 90 participants from industry, academia, and federal agencies. The participants represented more than 50 unique organizations.
NIIMBL Remembers Dr. Mark Fisher

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Mark Fisher.
Dr. Fisher held the position of Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Kansas Medical School, a member of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology & Education (NIPTE). His extensive research focused on protein folding and was supported through numerous grants and partnerships with the NIH and the biotechnology industry.

New Cell Lines Enable Production of NISTmAb

A new paper published in the journal mAbs describes how researchers at the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR), a joint institute of NIST and the University of Maryland have engineered three mouse cell lines to produce nonproprietary versions of NISTmAb that closely resemble the characteristics of the original reference material. This discovery is an important step in improving the manufacturing process of biologic drugs used to fight health conditions such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases.
NIIMBL Roadmapping Program Continues with Content Workshop

The NIIMBL roadmap initiative continued in Baltimore last week as members of the three topic teams gathered at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland-Baltimore for a Face-to-Face Content Workshop. The purpose of the workshop was to refine current drafts of the three NIIMBL roadmaps currently in development: gene therapy, ADCs/bispecifics, and vaccines. Teams also strategized next steps and set timelines as they work toward publication later this year.

The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) is excited to announce it has launched a new website and member Community Portal. Visitors can access the website and Community Portal at http://www.niimbl.org.
First NIIMBL Project Output Revealed at National Meeting

NIIMBL continues to build momentum toward new, innovative biomanufacturing technologies. That momentum was on display at the National Meeting as Dr. Dhinakar Kompala of Sudhin Biopharma Co., an early SME member, showed off the company’s new single-use compact settler for clarifying cell culture broth. The settler is among the first outputs of a NIIMBL-funded project.
